They have tripled down on specialists. The "class" system is them just trying to see how far they can push things until players concede ground and then they have a starting point on how far they can push players in the next game

For each class, they've given them certain gadgets that cannot be changed. So for example, Engineers always have repair tool, so it's more than just "grouping" specialists but ofcourse one thing that's missing is the limitation of weapons per class which is most likely due to the low number of weapons in BF2042.

In BF2042, the support class is the medic class. Medics should be mobile and near other team mates. SMGs obviously fit that role a lot better than the slow LMGs …

@DogPaws bf5 had more content offered at once than 2042 did. they are drip feeding these maps, characters, and guns this time so they don't make the same mistake. They're not going to spend months making new maps for a half dead game. They're going to drip feed existing maps or maps that have already started development last year and release them in stretched out periods of time.
