I've been saying this in a few posts but I genuinely believe the following:
They're still in the middle of their hiring process for the team as there's still MANY vacancies on their website.. They can't commit to a 3 month season in their current state because they literally just don't have the man-power to get what they want to get done in that time. So my theory is that if they're successful in the hiring process and manage to actually give a bunch of talented developers permanent full time contracts, we will get a pretty sizeable mid-season update at the 3 month mark. It's better for them to over-deliver on what they've said than promise things within a timeline that right now it's physically impossible for them to meet.
Yes I'm huffing the copium, no I don't really care. Tbh as soon as I stopped playing ranked my enjoyment for this game went up 10-fold. I'm a fully grown adult with a life outside of gaming which means I only have a few hours a week to play, and to this day I still prefer to jump on infinite and smash some btb during those few hours a week than any other game on my steam library (aside from the occasional MCC campaign sesh with friends, which would happen even if infinite was the best game ever), and that says something...
If we get a mid-season update, sweet, if we don't, oh well. Regardless, I think a lot of the community needs to take a proper break from Halo and Halo-related content and come back for season 2 with a fresh mind and an open heart, I see people on the reddit and in the comment section of any halo content that have clearly put their whole life into this franchise and that's cool but to allow a microsoft-run company dictate your emotions for the day is absolutely ridiculous. Like seriously, if you've read this far into my comment take a second to think about this; when was the last time you consumed a piece of halo infinite content or it's comment section and walked away feeling GOOD or HAPPY? Now contrast that with how many times in the last month you've consumed Halo infinite content and left feeling angry, upset, defeated, cheated, betrayed etc? This community has become a massive echo-chamber resonating at frequencies that constantly compound and magnify negativity and that just isn't healthy.
I say this from the most caring place possible: It's. Just. A. Game. It's okay to be upset about things but please for the love of god don't allow it to turn you cynical, it's just not worth it <3

The best part about all of this is that infinite core gameplay cycle is fresh but familiar without breaking the mould in a way that feels too much like [insert game]. There is a unique identity that I feel is fun to come back to most days. If that feeling was not legit, I doubt we would have a season 3 to look forward to.

When I play H5, I have fun and can play all day. With infinite I get bored after 5-10 games. People bring up more content needed' which is true. But new weapons would be my first priority even over maps and game types. Playing Fiesta on H5 with voids tear, gavel, blood of Suban, ect ect....made the game so fun. 343 has put more into microtransactions with stupid armor over game play. Young crowds nowadays who care about armor n skins will like it. Older players like me can't stand it and want better game play and weapons. It's sad that halo tried going fortnite

I think Halo fans seem so angry because of how fucking amazing this franchise can be, and in every game all we get is a taste of what can easily be a game as amazing as or even better than Halo 2 and 3, but never delivers the full package in order to do so. I still love this game, as I really only play Halo or Fallout if I'm playing video games at all, and am stoked to have a new Halo game to play. New maps and game modes are absolutely essential, at least 4 new competitive maps are needed immediately, and should be a very high priority. New sandbox items sounds really cool, idk if any Halo game has done that before. I'd love to see a Fuel Rod or some shit added out of nowhere, and a cool piece of new equipment or some shit.

The gameplay in infinite is masterclass. I would trade in all this new content for 5 new ranked maps. Ranked is the bread and butter of halo and it should be their priority to keep the ranked lobbies full. Do they really expect us to play slayer on Aquarius 10 times a night for the next 6 months. Adding 1 new map just simply isn't enough. It can't be that hard to design a map.

@Joza yeah the gameplay of halo is impeccable. If you don't think it is then you're just hating on the game because that's the "popular" thing to do. The movement, sandbox, and equipment in the game is amazing. You must be one of those COD guys who like to get his kills by shooting someone for 1 second. Halo actually makes you work for your kills.

Viewer numbers are terrible for the game and with the roadmap we got, there’s very little to suggest that’ll improve over the year. Sure I hope it does cuz I love the game, but it’s in a very bad state for pro players currently and most of them have said as much a lot of times.

@Srivatsan Prabu but what is that based on? The roadmap of what they’re working on does very little to suggest that it’ll get better. Even if after season three it is better and running more smoothly, custom games doesn’t crash constantly during big tournaments, and desync is fixed it will still have taken a year and a half after the game shipped to get it there while in the meantime player numbers continue to get worse. To assume that all the excitement for the game will come back a year and a half later for even the majority of people who left is just naively optimistic in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong I’d love it if it did, but I think the chances of that are pretty awful based on how the game and HCS is doing rn only 6 months after launch.

The worst part about all this is that infinite has the skeleton to be the greatest halo game we've ever had. At a point we have to ask where all the money is going because some of these studios and devs definitely made out like bandits with all that cheese microsoft was pouring into the game. @James Colman There is a clear skill gap. Players like you complain when you get killed by bums. This isn't halo 5, you have to be good individually and as a team to win. The game has alot of flaws but if not for the desync the better player wins the fight 99 times out of 100.

I just don't get why they refuse to add more ranked playlist to the game. I've always been a comp player but I definitely liked being able to grind every playlist to the highest rank when I wanted a switch. There are a lot of Halo players that think playing Social games feels pointless and not fun. I just don't understand it at all.

Here is my take: S3 is supposed to be the ACTUAL launch of the game and will also have Tankata that will draw the BR audience. We can asumme S2 is a dud, but what S2 NEEDS to serve is a cleanup both technical and feature wise so that S3 can launch in a good state with no issues. We need Customs fixed and performance to be fixed. That is priority 1

I would like to see something in Ranked where you can decide whether or not to advance to the next level. If you are the top of the level you should get a custom helmet that is a crown or something, and people could fight over the crown in each level of ranked.
