Thoughts on Halo Infinite's Bandit? AKA the DMR?
My current thoughts summed up, I drop it for any other gun, feels fine against other Bandits.
Slight range increase and a tiny tiny bit of a fire increase and it'll feel more competitive vs the BR/Commando.

kinda a redundant weapon the dmr never did anything the battle rifle didn't already do the only reason it even exists is because of reach. the issues withthe dmr are traced to the same problem the promethean weapons had just being a clone of another weapon. the covenant carbine was different because it was a high pressure weapon you could supress an enemy with rapid fire projectiles. the dmr is just a stand in battle rifle

I don’t like it because it’s literally a copied pasted dmr with the scope stripped. It’s a designated marksman rifle without the marksman cause it no longer has the accuracy of the scope.

The commando outplays it and it’s not even a dmr. Its essentially just a scoped carbine, but with its scope and full auto, it outplays the bandit.
The bandit is also outranged and outplayed by the BR as it’s essentially a burst dmr. Thanks to its scope it has the designated accuracy that the bandit doesn’t.
The two ways to improve the bandit in my opinion. For close range either make it full auto (like in the trailer) or greatly improve the fire rate, but overall I think it should receive some sort of long range reticule, like a scope, to fit in ranges that the br couldn’t. Have it be the compact sniper that was originally made to be.

Don’t put this rifle in a place where it shouldn’t be with competition that would outplay it. If they are worried about people being beamed across the map, then I guess the sniper rifle nor the stalker shouldn’t even be in the game. The bandit should be a competitor, or a step down to the stalker. This is my opinion based on my experience with guns.

I think it should mirror the br for the most part. The bandit is just a DMR without the scope. Shots should be a bit challenging, Turk should match the br and maybe make it a 3 shot weapon to head.

the bandit like the commando is trash, sidekick still needs a nerf, plasma pistol needs a buff, stalker needs a minor buff, the shock rifle needs a slight buff to scoping(needs to be the in between distance of a br and sniper), hammer damage needs to be more consistent(getting tired of swinging and it doing nothing at point blank), rockets still sometimes dont do shit, i think they may have nerfed the ravager. how to fix the bandit give it the sidekicks current damage output. how to fix the commando, fire rate determined by if scoped in or not, also changing how that mag well is holy fuck is it badly designed.

I don't enjoy it as much in 4v4 but as a starting weapon in btb I have enjoyed it very much. I hope they make it a btb start across the board and not just in last week's event. I personally like the idea of reach style btb returning. That has by far been my favorite btb experience across all the halo games.

Definitely feels like an underpowered weapon because it has a narrow sweet spot and is easily outclassed by the sidekick on the shorter range and by the battle rifle at the longer range. Commando does a better job on both ends, overlapping completely.

I would much rather have fun classic weapons such as the Bruteshot, classic shotgun, Fuel Rod, Beam rifle or covenant carbine. Sticky detonator and concussion rifle would be fun too.

I think the Bandit should be adjusted ever so slightly turn the fire rate up jst a bit and turn the damage down proportionally to counter the fire rate increase. I feel the bandit would be more fun if it could shoot jst a tiny bit faster. Love the sound of the gun. Just my opinion.

Edit and I’d rather a h3 Carbine to vs the br as opposed to the bandit lol

My major concern with the bandit is that it becomes the dmr.

Halo infinite bringing back assault rifle starts was the major change in the game that brought back the action sandbox style game that I loved from halo 3.

They could/should have brought more unique exotic weapons into the game that really further the sandbox fun that is halo instead of another precision gun that we have enough of

I personally don't mind the Bandit on the weapon sandbox, however when you weight the idea of other more iconic weapons like the brute shot or the fuel rod (among many others) it feels like a wasted potential.

But part of me thinks people would find whichever weapon it would've been as a point to complain about regardless.

I think the only true solution is to have more content in general over drip fed ones (like one competitive weapon and one that isn't comp focus).

So, they struggled to balance it because they didn't want to to end up redundant or overshadowing other precision weapons.

You know, you wouldn't have this issue if you just made a weapon which the sandbox didn't already cover.

They tried really hard to not end up like Halo 4 where they had a redundant variant for every weapon.

But there is a saying: Work smart, not hard.

If you have 10 rocks, and you really want an 11th, but you don't want it to "just be another rock", then I have a great tip for you: Don't make a rock in the first place.

If you have an idea, but all you run into is issues when trying to make that idea a reality, then your idea probably sucks.

Joe Blackburn, the game director of Destiny 2 had a great quoute, it went something along the lines of "Be passionate about your ideas, but also be ready to put them down."

Because to me this seems like one of those times when someone really wanted the DMR to be in the game, and as they were struggling to make it a reality, in the end they just ended up with a watered-down version of the idea, or changed. Not for the improvement of the game, but rather for the sake of the idea being in the game at all.

A developer at CD Projekt Red for The Witcher 3 also said something along these lines; Sometimes an idea you want in the game doesn't make it, simply because it sounded better in your head, and in reality it wasn't fun. Or you don't have the time, or it's just too difficult to actually implement.

What I think you should gather from this is that it's better to work with ideas that doesn't have too many things that get in the way when trying to implement. After Halo 5's crazy movement that made map design and weapon balancing so much harder than it needed to be, I figured 343 would've learned this lesson, but then again, who even are 343 these days?

Curious how changing (essentially switching) the firing modes of the Bandit and Commando would work for weapon balance. Bandit is a single shot, whereas Commando is automatic.
What if the Bandit was changed to be automatic while maintaining the ROF it has now - and you change the Commando to be a single shot.
Spamming the trigger ultimately reduces accuracy because your hand's having to do more work - so removing the spamming from the gun that requires more accuracy, means it will feel a lot easier to keep up with the ROF of the person shooting at you. And you can still feather the trigger like the Commando.
On the other hand, what if the Bandit, (or Commando if the previous suggestion is good enough for the Bandit) had an echo/binary firing mode - Letting you feather the trigger to produce one shot, but holding the trigger down to produce two shots. The ROF once again wouldn't need to change, but instead of pressing the trigger for every bullet, it's instead for ever other bullet?? The spacing between the two bullets would be the same as the spacing between two shots normally. Not like the BR which shoots 3 bullets all at once.
Aiming accuracy and damage could remain the same, but the way the guns operate would change.
Yeah it would be up for debate then in how skill expression is impacted - if you're essentially making a gun easier. I'm just spitballing.

It’s a ranged precision weapon with no range or precision. Feels like it’s very slow and some hits aren’t registering. All the other human weapons completely outclass it. It just needs a little work like the commando did. But they really should be bringing more old and fun weapons back. We already have a bunch of precision weapons. Just give me a plasma rifle. Make it sound beefy and two handed again like in ce.

Mints points are exactly what I felt. In its current state I kept wishing it had a scope because at range it felt hard to target other players. However, I understand why they don't want to give it a scope, and so as a compromise increasing it's red reticle range makes a lot of sense. I also feel like it fires painfully slow and as a result you get punished for missing considerably especially outside red reticle range.

Idk why, but for me as a kbm player, the bandit seems much harder to use than the br. I’ve just been grinding the br 1v1s so much that it seems much more natural feeing than the bandit. But that’s just my opinion.

Should be a middle ground between BR and Sniper, it’s a pretty useless weapon if the BR fires faster and requires less bursts to kill than DMR shots to kill.

I like it but I haven't found the range for it yet. The design is cool and the sound is noice. When I swap to it i use it like the pistol and get smacked almost every time. With the pistol it does the job in putting down my opponent almost every time. I end up like Remy switching it out for something else.

I really enjoy the bandit, but I think if it was more faithful to reach’s DMR, it might be a better weapon overall. 343 should fix the registering issue, and maybe even add an optional scope, but it shouldn’t be a low budget sniper rifle to cross-map with. But that’s my opinion. Also nice killionare

I like the new weapon but I think the time to kill to the body needs to be a tiny bit faster. I also think that for some reason, hitting headshots feels really odd sometimes. Not all of the time but just sometimes. I think the only other tweak is to make it's red reticle range a bit further. There's some maps where I think I can hit someone and I'm always just barely out of that red reticle range and I get destroyed. I love how the weapon feels, it's awesome to have a DMR in my hands again, but I honestly think it needs to be a little stronger. And if the fire rate needs to take a small hit to balance out per bullet damage and range, I'd say do it.
