Carry weight/bags etc. is the most boring game mechanic ever.
tupalev2023/09/23(土) 04:41
I played this a lot at launch - 100+ hours - absolutely loved it. I didn't do much but beat a couple of bosses and just kind of hang out in it - as you said, there are many different ways to play it. I need to round up a crew and start again. I'm glad you enjoyed it - thanks for the video!
StatixShox2023/09/23(土) 12:43
Valheim is a great game and can be seriously challenging at times. I have over 1500 hours played in it and hundreds of those hours building epic bases. I have done both modded and vanilla gameplay. There's something out there for everyone. Though the game is one hell of a grind it is also very rewarding especially when you take a step back and see all that you have accomplished and gain the vision of what more you want to obtain.
Dankley2023/09/22(金) 04:18
The latest update that lets you bring ore through the portals has made life so much better with that game
TFViper2023/09/22(金) 09:41
in regards to the "double the cost as you upgrade" comment:
bronze costs 3 ore, so even if its 8 bronze, you still have to mine and smelt 24 ore into bars then into bronze.
iron comes in absolute abundance, 1 crypt can be several stacks of iron, not to mention the massive ammount of treasure items in crypts that are needed now more than ever.
the silver sword is THE strongest pre-yagluth weapon, specifically for killing yagluth, and also has spirit damage which debuffs enemies accordingly. 40 silver is a bargain.
ifritron2023/09/21(木) 10:34
You just have to play in 2 Worlds
in 1 you build and in the other one you farm
if you log out, you keep the stuff you carry. its easy to go from a mine direct into your home by login/out

you just dont "sandbox" enough
sbishopvt2023/09/21(木) 04:46
Immersive with penalty is alot of fun.

Szymon Pazura2023/09/20(水) 03:03
Great short summary about the game. Could't agree more. Some aspects of the game (inventory menagment) ar quite outdated and game is a bit to grindy but overall experience is great. And it is a small game in terms of GB on your hard drive, I like when devs do not want me to download 50+ GB games.
sawmanUK2023/09/20(水) 03:09
Well said! :)
Lemon EyeSalt2023/09/20(水) 04:11
Alot of the grind has been remedied in the recent update allowing you to 2x and 1.5x the resource rates which is very good
John Redman2023/09/19(火) 02:46
Creeping up on 4k hours played with no mods here. Conquering whole seeds takes time.
Noutilus2023/09/19(火) 12:31
Good old make your product (nearly ) free to take over the market and once you have done that you increase the price. 6000 year old tactic.
Admiralsniper Productions2023/09/19(火) 04:44
Bruh its no longer 5 devs it extended to hundreds over the past 2 years
person 1152023/09/18(月) 07:28
One thing you are leaving out is that a bronze sword is 16 copper and 8 tin so it takes more ore to get a bronze sword than it does a iron one
Rational Orc2023/09/18(月) 05:58
Bronze weapons only require 8 because the actually require 16 copper and 8 tin, so if anything 20 iron is actually easier to collect if you really think about. Silver weapons are expensive but they also come with bonus spirit dmg against the undead, so there is a reason for the additional cost. I don't think the grind actually gets worse as you go.
Shmucko212023/09/20(水) 11:08
Grind definitely gets easier. Copper mining is a fuckin SLOG. Getting Iron and Silver is super easy in comparison, sure the enemies are a bit tougher to deal when you first enter the biome but thats about it.
Kekus Magnus2023/09/23(土) 06:19
Copper is probably the worst grind. Iron is annoying but a well-positioned base and a few poison potions make it a breeze. Similarly, silver is easy once you find a large mountain with a lot of veins. BM is the easiest, farming flax is the annoying part (farming in general is unnecessarily tedious). Soft Tissue isn't hard either if you exclude the general annoyance of being in the mistlands
ImBigMadd2023/09/18(月) 11:28
As you said in this video, the world modifiers speed up a lot of the crappy grinding and resource gathering rates that the normal game has. Personally having x3 drops and allowing myself to TP with any item makes the game way faster and better to play. You can finish a lot more a lot quicker by just doing that.
ruben2023/09/21(木) 12:07
that sounds too quick for me maybe 1.5 drops and teleport is good enough
undignified2023/09/18(月) 06:36
I enjoyed this. Well done!
Edwin Heida2023/09/18(月) 05:29
I had a good feeling about Valheim from the start. And I was not disappointed when I got the game. Many, many hours wasted and I still come back to play it every now and then. Excellent title. Oh and fu Unity.
Flapjaq2023/09/18(月) 02:47
Let's hope the unity per download fee doesn't affect them too much 🤞

Wagner by Nature2023/09/18(月) 02:06
10/10 game.Played at launch. Enjoyed every bit of it. Few of my friends always go back every 6-8 months and play it from the start all over again. Love seeing the new updates, and the mod community is great as well. We have used some of the inventory management and sorting mods, to save time.
Juan Zulu2023/09/19(火) 10:27
Could u identify those features which you enjoy the most? From watching the video I find it hard to understand the enthusiasm...
Wagner by Nature2023/09/19(火) 02:53
Personally I loved everything about the game. Style of graphics, atmosphere, progression is good (grindy for singleplayer though) At the time playing it was a fresh experience, and I went in blind with 3 friends, it was such a good time. What I like about it may not translate over to everyone else.

Personally I would find a friend or 2 to play with, and just jump in. Ignore all the haters online. Sometimes others peoples taste can ruin an experience for you. If you have imagination, and can Roleplay a little bit, this game will be very fun for you guys.

The only dislike I have is the pacing. It is a grind, however with the new patch options you can customize your game to fix this. so its no longer an issues as of today.

A lot of complaints I hear I don't really understand. But I personally think people set the bar way too high in life these days and expect perfection, which ruins the experience for many.

The pacing isn't an issue if you are playing with 2-4 others, but alone it isn't the best experience compared to multiplayer. Unless you are the type of person who can create stories and scenarios in your head while playing.

For any issues players have with features, there is basically a mod for that, but I would really do a vanilla play through first. Perhaps use the mods that help with item organization, it does save time.

Of course there are EA quirks that need to be ironed out, but very rarely have I spend $20 and got this much enjoyment from a small indie title.

Its 40% off I believe, buy some copies for your buddies and have a good time!
@Juan Zulu
Juan Zulu2023/09/19(火) 04:15
@Wagner by Nature thank u very much for the detailed feedback. Yes, indeed, I intend to play it with three friends. Only the old school graphic made me hesitate a bit. But it seems it doesnt kill the atmosphere so it should be ok.
Wagner by Nature2023/09/19(火) 04:44
I would give it a shot! The graphics grow on you, and the style and lighting is actually really nice. Every time I go back to play I forget how the graphics look, but in my mind the game always looks beautiful.
@Juan Zulu
Olilolaf2023/09/17(日) 09:54
I agree with most of your points, and to be fair, there is a lot of grinding to be done especially for building materials. But the jump in metal-mining, at least from bronze to iron, gets cheaper overall. One bronze ingot is 3 raw ores, while one iron ingot is just one raw ore scrap. Also farming iron is just a lot more fun. It all changes with silver, but I don't think it's done to extend your time spent playing the game.
Luke Rafa2023/09/19(火) 09:58
also with the new world modifiers you don't have to grind anymore
Toshiko Tanaka2023/09/20(水) 01:04
@Luke Rafa - The only thing I hate about the game is the size of the world and that you can't take metal/ore through a portal. Sailing to a new land mass hoping to find a mountain biome so you can find out where Moder's alter is, only to be disappointed, then sailing again gets really old. It would take a month of playing eight hours a day to uncover the complete map. That's a grind.
Luke Rafa2023/09/20(水) 02:00
@Toshiko Tanaka you dont really need to explore the whole map, hell even half of it, but you do need to explore, I think because its a viking game they were trina simulate the feeling of trying to find new land and taking all the treasures back on boat, if you dont like the exploration aspect theres a website you can go on to see the map of your seed with all the boss stones etc
Toshiko Tanaka2023/09/20(水) 02:59
@Luke Rafa - "you dont really need to explore the whole map, hell even half of it"

I must have horrible luck then. I saw a sub reddit that talked about the site with the map + a link but that's like cheating right?
Luke Rafa2023/09/21(木) 03:45
@Toshiko Tanaka pretty much every map generates a similar way, the inner zone (meadows, black forest) middle zone ( swamps, plains) outerzone (mistlands and all other biomes) and mountains are all about, then ofc deep north and ashlands, if you cant find a boss you should look to each biomes “dungeons” and structures to find the stones that give you the location it shouldn’t take long man, the map is kind of cheating in a way yes but its a good solution if you are struggling and not having fun because of it
DOAM12342023/09/17(日) 09:27
should have mentioned the horrible networking design and the horrible enemy scaling in coop...
sawmanUK2023/09/18(月) 01:24
I've not had an issue with the scaling so far, i think depending on who's hosting the game runs quite smooth
DOAM12342023/09/18(月) 04:17
@sawmanUK nah the networking is... special... whoever loads into a zone first "hosts" it. so if u n me played together we'd bounce back and forth between me hosting in straya and u hosting in britbonginghamtonshire. its infuriating in the age of the interwebs where we have friends all over the world.

monster scaling i found to be fine up to about 3 ppl in the same area. but as soon as u get a 4th person in the area it just becomes unfun. no real "buffs" or "healers" or anything, but the creatures dmg and HP scale up drastically.
sawmanUK2023/09/18(月) 08:10
Ah right, tbf we've been playing with low numbers and are all close by to each other. I guess we have been lucky in that sense.... We did at one point play on a scuffed server where enemies seemed to vary immensely in difficulty. I remember getting my ass handed to me by a troll who just wouldnt take any damage... @DOAM1234
David2023/09/18(月) 07:37
@DOAM1234 really? I thought the host was whoever starts the server. I didn't know that, I've not played with anyone across the pond but honestly, it's like that with ANY game. If you are playing with foreign friends, your connection will always be an issue, as for playing with friends in my country, I've not had issues.

As for PVP, it's a PvE game with the option for PvP, I believe the devs have stated their intention for the game to be PvE focused, so if someones looking for a PvP game I would recommend RUST, which is probably going to scratch that itch
DOAM12342023/09/18(月) 09:07
@David idk about pvp stuff at all, never tried it. As for hosting, it doesn't even have to be distance as the issue. what if ur friend just has shit internet? If I host it's fine for both of u in OTHER games but in valhiem even if I host, if ur friend loads into the desert first then u just constantly lose to deathsquitos due to lag/ping.
wilhelmrk2023/09/17(日) 09:05
Nice, this video reminded me of how we used to play this game last year when it came out. Good times.
Malgus Kerensky2023/09/17(日) 08:57
Valheim hit at the right time, many people stuck at home during Covid. It can be fun, more so in groups. Honestly the largest issue (if you can get past the graphics & recent Unity changes) is the very sluggish development time of this game.
David2023/09/18(月) 07:33
true, it takes them forever to get anything done. I do feel however, when it is updated it's at least quality. definitely not perfect, but it feels like they are patient, take their time and probably even enjoy it but dont let themselves get burnt out.

I would prefer they were faster though, I'd love to see more frequent updates
ayo2023/09/19(火) 09:42
I think it's a monetization issue.
They should at least do the path of exile supporter pack strategy.
When releasing an update -> give people an opportunity to pay 30 or 60 or 90 or 250 or 500 or 1000 for the game. The 500 or 1000 payers get a mug and shirt.
Someone is going to drop 1000 on it for basically nothing, there's millions of millionaires out there who are looking for avenues to spend on their favorite games.
Hell there's people spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on mobile games.
Part of the money raising can be tied to reaching community goals to fund the next goals.
Make a little indicator like if they sell 2 million they can hire two additional programmers at market rate for like 12 years.
Or 12 programmers for 2 years.
The supporter packs should probably affect up to 4 people, meaning you buy one for your friends. The features could be early access, and perks during early access. There might be some cosmetic knick knacks you could probably do but that'd probably suck.
It could be a suite of quite silly transformations of the game to be fair, people aren't really buying to get all the value when they buy a supporter pack.
It could be a pyjama transformation that gives you special pillow attacks or something. And you can share it with 2 friends on the base tier or up to 12 on the 90.
If you don't have more friends to share it with you can turn it into premium currency which can be used to buy the next pack up to 50% cheaper and the premium currency can maybe be used to hire a server with like always online function or so, or make large servers for thousands of people. Or they can come up with a service that would require money to continue development.
Like they can use the premium currency to post a feature request and if enough people put their premium currency behind it like maybe worth 5000 dollars they can spend 200 dev hours on that feature.
Kinda what ggg did with unique items during early development I guess.
You might convince some devs to work at below market rate because valheim is a great game, but I guess the calculation still has to add up for money/hours
Gnarkz2023/09/23(土) 06:21
I think the graphics are awesome, unique timeless art style for sure
MrKained1232023/09/17(日) 07:17
One of the negatives being you can lose dozens of hours worth of work. I came on and my world was completely reset. Apart from the fog. So I could see where I'd been but all my bases. Portals. Chests. Gone... I only had what was on my back. Never played again..
wilhelmrk2023/09/17(日) 08:23
Backup saves should be mandatory.

@blktauna you might be special ed bro. Band of malacath was P2W guess what, if someone killed you with that mythic on, they paid to win. Seems like you have a hard time understanding that. Clearly skill matters. Band of malacath was broken as hell at launch and anybody running it was clearing BG's
blktauna2023/09/17(日) 11:02
@Tom Guglielmo plainly I m not the special ed as I got the job done without it. Your perception it was necessary doesn’t make it fact.

@blktauna no, but the FACT is, it's an unfair advantage, that you pay for. Hurr durrrrrr
Tom Guglielmo2023/09/17(日) 11:25
Now tell me "the released it as a product of the game, so it's not unfair or an advantage" predatory $$$ bs. It's an unfair advantage, not everyone will pay 180$ a year on a single game, being ESO+ and a dlc title. Your defending predatory capitalism. Congratz

Valheim is awesome. The community has also made some really cool mods for this game.
The Gen X Gamer2023/09/17(日) 01:49
I have 1300 hours into Valheim its a great game, I've had a lot of fun with it. Its definitely not for everyone. Combat has issues, point conceded. The development of the game has been solid. Twice a year good new content releases that IMHO have been decent (and part of the base game you dont pay for it). Buy once, no aggressive cash shop just a merc shop. One thing Sawman didnt get into is the large modding community in Valheim. There are a ton of mods out there that clean up several issues and enhance others. Its a fun game I have enjoyed it a lot, if you see it on sale I'd pick it up.
sawmanUK2023/09/17(日) 02:03
Yea, i need to jump into the mods a bit more, but i like to give stuff a review in vanilla first. I'll be checking some of them out for sure, as i hear they clean up the UI and inventory !
The Gen X Gamer2023/09/17(日) 02:12
@sawmanUK Your review of the vanilla game was spot on. The mods out there have fixed and enhanced everything really. The community in valheim is very dedicated.

Gee Hammer2023/09/17(日) 12:14
This was the first gameplay I've seen of this title. Saw some early trailers and stuff about it and heard it was good. It has some nice touches like the smoke filling the house but that's as far as it goes, the combat is laughable. The way the player character looks is PS1 era.
It's like it's the best worst game out there, it stands next to Gollum and Dead Matter. I'd only play it if it was free but even then I doubt I'd play it for more than an hour.
sawmanUK2023/09/17(日) 02:05
Honestly, dont let the graphics put you off, it has some of the most addictive gameplay I've played in a while. It's on par with minecraft
Francesco Romano2023/09/17(日) 04:05
You should try it, ideally with friends. I am very biased as i've played for something like 800 hours over the years but i assure you that comparing this game to gollum is a massive insult. Yeah graphics are not the best technically but the atmosphere can be amazing, similar to subnautica creating a really good atmosphere without having 29019 polygons per square meter. Combat is simple but is varied enough to make replaying the game enjoyable, and it does increase in variety of weapons to more you progress but i think that the main thing in the game is building. The shading and light can work together with building in a really cool way and you can go from the default 3x3 cube with a roof to castles, towers, massive bridges, ports, just anything that you are creative enough to do. It is quite grindy tho but with the new custum settings you can enable x2 or even x3 loot drops and remove the "cant bring metals through portals" thing. Anyway, TLDR I think you should give it a go, especially in coop
LesserSphinx2023/09/23(土) 04:55
I don’t understand you people. PS1 graphical aesthetic = bad. I’d rather take this beautiful game over any modern cod or anything like that. Stylized graphics is king.
