Definitely use buckler for all enemies, but I have to give it to the tower shields when it comes to boss fights as you can not perry a boss.

Where if you mistime your parry due to panic, or server lag, you die in 1 hit.
Wouldn't the tower shield be a safer choice?

No that's a really good point. I'm not an experienced hardcore player but I did actually just start a hardcore playthrough on stream.
I would agree in hardcore and especially with multiplayer where there is lag the tower would be a much safer choice.
That said, my approach in hardcore is often to forgo a shield all together and just focus on dodging and not getting hit at all

Round shield is the most versatile in them all. Small shield lack the armor if you failed to parry a seeker you'll get staggered and most likely die. Round shield is really for me the best. With the same mspd reduction as the small shield might as well go for the safer choice than the flashy one that can get you killed when a mob of seeker attacks you. Especially the one star seeker accopanied by its buddies.

That's fair. There is always that risk with buckles if you miss the parry. Larger shields are certainly more forgiving

Same. I've started a stream series of a hardcore playthrough and that is my exact experience so far. The only way to play is avoid getting hit altogether!

The round shields are the best when playing on a multiplayer server with some latency. You can still parry well but also block reliably if you miss the parry.

Another really good point. Parrying is so much less reliable when ping is involved.

I've never been a big fan of tower shields, but when I first went into the Mistlands I found myself crafting one because the seekers were hitting me so hard it would regularly stagger me.

I was quite fond of the serpent shield for a long time. However, once I started trying different combos, and learned to parry, I'll never go back. Parry is king.

Agreed rusty. If i had to pick a tower shield though, I'd likely go Serpent for the reduced movement speed penalty. Plus, that pierce resistance is sweet too

Good video, but you should have demonstrated how tower shields are meant for when you have multiple targets in you. With a buckler, you can’t party with multiple targets, so you’re going to die. This is why around shields are an excellent mix when playing solo and you have more than 1 mob attacking.

That's a really good point. You're right, I didn't give enough credit for that circumstance. That said, when I'm mobbed my a lot of enemies I'd almost rather have an atgeir or a hammer for their AOE attacks.

Should mention that its hard to parry when i.e. 4 wolves are chasing you, you can parry 1st one but the rest might get you, thats why I play with atgeir most of the time because it has the same block armor as a buckler but when things get to serious I like having a normal or even a tower shield with me as well

@SpazzyjonesGaming I am more advanced than 1v1 but yes a round medium shield will always be my go to. Parrying a log Troll or Fuling berserker is always a moral booster.

Honestly in my opinion i just like to mindlessly be able to block attacks which is why i like the tower shield but i see why people would like the buckler or medium shield as parrying can be very useful but can you parry bosses?

You can but only melee strikes. Only 2 bosses use a melee strike. But the mini-bosses Hildir gives can be parried as they are just tougher than their normal counterparts
